Aston Martin has officially revealed the 2024 DB12 Volante ahead of its debut at this year’s Monterey Car Week in California. This serves as the convertible version of the DB12 coupe which launched several months ago in May 2023.

The 2024 Aston Martin DB12 Volante

According to the British car brand, the all-new Volante boasts the ability to provide the freedom of driving with the roof down, while not compromising on the DB12’s known sporting characteristics.

Exterior

Just like its coupe sibling, the drop-top Volante is a looker. From the front, it features Aston Martin’s large signature grille, a sculpted hood, and a pair of sharp LED headlamps.

With the roof folded down, the car looks seamless

Character lines from the front seamlessly transition toward the sides of the car. From this angle, one can see that the soft-top version of the DB12 has achieved a seamless integration of its main body and its movable roof. This is thanks to the brand’s electronic K-fold system which compactly stows away the car’s eight-layer fabric canopy just behind the cabin.

Plus, the roof is folded down in just 16 seconds and deployed in a mere 14 seconds. This operation is permitted at speeds of 49 km/h, so one doesn’t need to slow down as much when fiddling with the top. Plus, all of these the brand claims, is done without compromising cargo space.

Interior

Inside, the DB12 Volante promises a luxurious cabin that assumes a contemporary design. Found in the interior are several unique elements that set it apart from the coupe version. This includes wood veneers or optional carbon fiber panels on the seatbacks. These elevate the car’s style and serve as extra eye candy when the roof is folded down.

The 2-door convertible’s dashboard, however, appears to bear the same shape as the coupe. Plenty of surfaces are clad in soft-touch leather, and other niceties like a 12-way power adjustable seat, ambient lighting, an electric tilt and telescopic steering column, Alcantara headers, satin chrome decorative bits, etc.

Tech & Safety

Positioned diagonally on the center console of this all-new Aston Martin convertible is a 10.25-inch touchscreen. This infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, voice control capabilities, satellite radio, and audio streaming. It is then linked to a 390-watt 11-piece Aston Martin audio system. This is then matched by a similarly-sized fully digital meter cluster for the driver.

Safety for this model meanwhile, is handled by an advanced driver assist suite (ADAS). This includes adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, lane change assist, door open assist, automatic high beams, and driver drowsiness detection, among others.

Engine

Under the hood of the DB12 Volante is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that can make up to 671 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to its rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

It promises the same level of gut-punching performance as the DB12 coupe

Performance for this vehicle is further enhanced by an electronic differential, a carbon fiber propeller shaft, a four-stage electronic stability control system, and several drive modes. The brand also says that its torsional rigidity was increased by 5 percent over the older model. This is thanks to the car’s rigid bonded aluminum structure.

Its front independent and rear multi-link suspension system’s lateral rigidity meanwhile, was also improved. This, in turn, is due to its upgraded suspension mounts.

Aston Martin says that the DB12 Volante can do zero to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. It also has a claimed maximum top speed of 325 km/h.

Note, production of this new Aston Martin convertible will start in the third quarter of 2023. The first deliveries for the car will then commence in the fourth quarter of this year.
