Aston Martin has rolled out several models in celebration of its 110th anniversary this year. But perhaps the most noteworthy one that will shape the future of the brand is the launching of the new Aston Martin DB12.
Aston Martin DB12
The Aston Martin DB12 is the successor to the DB11, which is said to be the first of the brand’s next-generation sports cars. It is also dubbed as the world’s first “Super Tourer” as the car comes with exceptional performance and “indulgent luxury.”
Exterior
To the untrained eye, the Aston Martin DB12 could look a lot similar to the DB11. While exterior bits such as the headlights and taillights still look familiar, the exterior body gets a rounder finish. The grille is also larger, which is said to allow more cool air to flow into the radiators.
The world's first Super Tourer
The Super Tourer is running on Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires wrapped around 21-inch wheels. It features a bespoke compound fitted for the DB12, tuned by the British automaker to ensure precision steering, as well as improved grip in wet and dry conditions.
Interior
Inside, Aston Martin incorporated a new quilting pattern in full leather or Alcantara interior environments. The center console is now larger, housing various buttons such as traction control, gear shifter, and aircon controls. This provides a more driver-centric approach.
Refined interior
The automaker describes the interior as clean and contemporary-looking with classic craftsmanship and the finest materials. Aside from the elegant aesthetics, the cabin looks more innovative thanks to the new screens as compared to the outgoing model.
Tech & Safety
The 10.25-inch screen on the center console is equipped with the brand’s next-gen infotainment software, which is its first in-house system. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 3D mapping, and Over-The-Air updates. Meanwhile, the screen in front of the driver doesn’t have housing anymore.
The DB line is smarter than ever
One of the most featured technologies is the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, which is linked to an Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff). The latter improved the car’s cornering capabilities, providing the drivers with more confidence and control.
Engine & Powertrain
The use of a V12 engine has been discontinued in favor of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine good for 671 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Despite coming with a smaller displacement as standard, the DB12 makes more power than the DB11 by 34 percent. It enables a 3.5-second zero to 100 km/h acceleration time, and a 325 km/h top speed, according to Aston Martin.
It makes more power than the predecessor
Connected to the engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission. An all-new suspension system is also integrated into the new model, which features the latest adaptive dampers. This ensures improved performance from the engine is applied on the road.
No official price has been disclosed. But Aston Martin will start the first deliveries in the third quarter of this year.
