Bentley is taking huge leaps with the introduction of the all-new 2023 Mulliner Batur. The new two-door grand touring coupe is said to come with a new design language that will pioneer future Bentley models, as well as bridge the brand to electrification.
Bentley Mulliner Batur
The Bentley Mulliner Batur is a successor to the Mulliner Bacalar, which are both coachbuilt based on the current Continental GT. Only 18 series examples will be produced, with the deliveries expected to begin in mid-2023 after an extensive development program.
Exterior
The sporty design of the Bentley Mulliner Batur is eye-catching right off the bat. But the design team, led by Bentley’s Director of Design Andreas Mindt, wanted to still keep the brand’s elegant and classy themes. As said by the British luxury automaker, this is a preview of its future design language for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
New design language
With the front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser, the model gives off an aerodynamic look. It even gets an accenting line that stretches from the hood to the length of the car, which the company calls “endless bonnet.” The posh-looking body rides on a set of unique 22-inch wheels including paint options.
Interior
As the brand aims to become more sustainable, the vehicle is equipped with sustainable interior materials. The launch Batur model has a cabin theme of black, red, and orange – specifically, Beluga, Hotspur, and Hyperactive. It can even come with 3D-printed 18K gold finishes on the controls such as aircon vents.
The cabin is built on the Mulliner Bacalar
To tailor to the model’s clients, the Batur is available in a variety of sustainable interior materials. These include the following:
- Low-carbon leather sourced from Scotland
- Sustainable tannage leather from Italy, offered in five colors
- Dinamica, an alternative suede-like sustainable material to leather
Tech & Safety
The center console has three gauges, showing the outside air temperature, a compass, and a timer. It also gets a signature Bentley clock positioned in between the air vents. As a nod to the more potent W12 engine, the dashboard is etched with the waveform of the sound of the power unit.
It comes with refinements such as 3D 18K gold finishes
No standard safety features were disclosed. But the vehicle is equipped with a 4-mode Drive Dynamics Control. It can provide up to 1,300 Nm of anti-roll torque in 0.3 seconds, offering a more stable ride. Moreover, an electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD) helps maximize overall traction and cornering grip.
Engine & Powertrain
As said earlier, the brand’s signature W12 engine is developed to deliver improved performance, making it the most powerful Bentley in history. The hand-assembled 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine is capable of generating more than 730 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque.
The most powerful Bentley to date
One can say that the performance upgrades are a proper send-off for the engine as it is closing to its retirement. This is to pave way for Bentley’s move towards electrification. The power unit will run alongside the brand’s CSiC (Carbon-Silicon-Carbide) braking system. It consists of 440 mm front and 410 mm rear discs, matched with 10-piston front and four-piston rear calipers.
Price
Each of the 18 Bentley Mulliner Batur limited units is priced at £ 1.65-million (or about Php 109.5 million), before taxes and options. The Batur made its debut at the Monterey Car Week in front of Bentley customers.
