The numbers seem to reflect market demand for versatile vehicles.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has released its sales figures for the previous year, with the Xpander multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and L300 light commercial vehicle (LCV) at the top of Mitsubishi models favored by customers.

MMPC says that over 11,300 customers have taken delivery of the Xpander in 2021

The country’s second-leading automaker managed to roll out 37,548 brand-new units from its dealership showrooms in 2021, the second year of the current COVID-19 pandemic. As with its rivals, MMPC’s sales took a hit when quarantine lockdowns were implemented in March 2020, resulting in 37,366 vehicles sold for that year – a far cry from its high of 64,065 units in 2019.

According to MMPC figures, the gasoline Xpander dominated the roster with the keys to 11,342 units handed over to customers last year. Not too far behind is the diesel-powered L300 with 10,147 units sold. These numbers seem to reflect current market trends, with consumers preferring vehicles that can serve both personal use and business applications, such as for fleet transport and deliveries. The two models have been engaged in a close battle for sales supremacy.

The L300 retains its reputation as Mitsubishi's reliable workhorse

Adding to the Xpander’s appeal was the release of the Black Series variant in November, which replaced the standard chrome and silver garnish with black trim pieces, right down to the 16-inch alloy wheels. This was joined by the Black Series version of the top-spec Strada Athlete midsize pickup in December.

Taking third place in the sales rankings with 5,962 units sold is the Mirage G4, which received a facelift in 2021. Similar to its Xpander, Strada, Montero Sport, and Outlander PHEV stablemates, the subcompact sedan now sports the Dynamic Shield fascia. Like its Mirage hatchback counterpart and the L300, the Mirage G4 is assembled at MMPC’s plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

The following is the breakdown of MMPC’s sales figures for the rest of its model range in 2021:

 Model Units sold (2021)
 Xpander  11,342
 L300  10,147
 Mirage G4  5,962
 Strada  5,272
 Montero Sport  4,195
 Mirage Hatchback  615
Outlander PHEV  9
