One of the fastest-growing markets in the country right now is the small crossover segment. A few of the reasons why small crossovers are a hit to Filipino car buyers these days is due to their versatility where they can offer notable space and drive smoothly like a sedan. Plus, this type of vehicle doesn’t come with a high price tag.
Despite the popularity of the segment, the country’s top-selling car brand, Toyota, still doesn’t have a challenger to the said vehicle category. As of this writing, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) only offers the Corolla Cross and RAV4 which are both on the more premium side of the crossover market.
Toyota Raize small crossover
These are the reasons why it is ideal to add the Toyota Raize to the Japanese car brand’s Philippine lineup. The Toyota Raize is the first small crossover introduced by the brand’s subsidiary, Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., in 2019. Daihatsu is also the same manufacturer of Toyota’s entry to the local hatchback segment, the Wigo.

It comes with a 9-inch screen with SmartDeviceLink and Apple CarPlay connectivity
As for dimensions, the Toyota crossover is 3,995mm long, 1,695mm wide, and 1,620mm tall. By just looking at the numbers, it is shorter and a tad smaller than other small crossovers in the local market such as the Kia Stonic, Hyundai Venue, and Chery Tiggo 2.
Under the hood, the Toyota Raize shares the same engine as the Toyota Wigo which is the 1.0-liter 1KR-VE 3-cylinder gasoine engine. The only difference is that the small crossover is equipped with a turbocharger that can generate 97 hp and 140 Nm of torque.
A mini Toyota RAV4 if you will
In the Japanese market, the entry-level 4x2 X variant of the Toyota Raize is offered at JPY 1,679,000 (or around Php 752,000) and goes up to JPY 2,282,000 (or Php 1,016,000) for the top-spec Z 4x4 variant. Take note the prices in Philippine peso are just for estimates, and are not yet inclusive of tax. If TMP decided to bring this crossover into the country, then the price of the Toyota Raize could sit in between the prices of the Avanza and the Rush.
