Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially launched the all-new 2022 Veloz, which is offered in two variants at a starting price of Php 1,185,000. TMP has also separated the Veloz from the current Avanza lineup, making it a stand-alone model.
TMP explains that the Veloz is for individuals who are looking for a more premium car compared to the Avanza. While it still has the familiar MPV look, TMP is marketing the all-new Veloz as a subcompact SUV, which is similar to how the Suzuki XL7 and the Honda BR-V are marketed in the Philippines.
Speaking to Philkotse.com during the launch, TMP Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services Elvin Luciano said that the company is looking to sell 800 Veloz units per month. TMP’s target unit sales for the 2022 Toyota Veloz is lower than what it has set for the all-new Avanza, which is at 1,000 units per month.
The target unit sales is an indication that TMP is more confident that the Avanza will sell more than the Veloz, which is expected due to the price point of the two Toyota vehicles. To put things in perspective, the all-new Toyota Avanza comes with a starting price of Php 813,000 and goes all the way to Php 1,039,000 for the top-spec G variant.
One can differentiate the 2022 Veloz from the Avanza through its exterior and interior finish. The Veloz has a different grille design compared to the Avanza, and it also comes with larger dimensions. The 2022 Toyota Veloz is 80mm longer, and 45mm wider than the all-new Avanza.
The Veloz comes with a different seat material
The all-new Toyota Veloz also comes with a more refined interior that’s highlighted by leather and fabric seats. Aside from that, it is integrated with more modern tech such as the digital instrument display, wireless smartphone charger, and Toyota Safety Sense driver-assist features, among others.
Under the hood, the Veloz uses the same 1.5-liter gasoline engine that’s found on the Avanza G trim. It delivers 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque. The Veloz’s engine is connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
