2022 Toyota Veloz officially launched in the Philippines 

Toyota Motor Philippines has officially launched the all-new Veloz seven-seater MPV. It comes hot on the heels of the new-generation Toyota Avanza that was introduced weeks ago, but just as our previous reports have said, the Veloz now stands as its own model.

Locally, it is set to compete against the likes of the Suzuki XL7, Mitsubishi Xpander Cross, Honda BR-V, and Geely Okavango, among others. 

So, what does this new Toyota offer for prospective buyers? To find out, let’s get to know the all-new 2022 Toyota Veloz a little bit better inside and out. 

Exterior 

On the outside, the Veloz at first might seem like a dressed-up version of the Avanza. Then again, it gets plenty of different bits that sets it apart from its platform twin.

For starters, its front end features a huge honeycomb pattern grille. On either side of the grille is a pair of LED headlamps with integrated turn signal lamps and LED daytime running lamps. Then down below, the Veloz gets a front air dam, as well as a pair of front foglamps with L-shaped bezels. 

Towards the side of the Veloz, one can see that it uses a set of fancy-looking 17-inch wheels. Also present in this new model is a pair of automatic folding side mirrors equipped with puddle lamps. The lower portion of the window line also gets a chrome finish that runs from the front of the vehicle, all the way to its rear. 

Speaking of the rear, the Veloz gets a pair of LED taillights, a rear air dam, as well as a roof-mounted rear spoiler. Up top, it also comes with a shark-fin antenna, and roof rails.

Size-wise, the Veloz for the Philippine market has a length of 4,475mm, a width of 1,775mm, and a height of 1,700mm. It also has a ground clearance of 190mm, and a wheelbase length of 2,750mm. 

Interior 

Inside, the Veloz sports a two-tone black and white color scheme, with a sprinkling of metallic trim pieces.  

For its seats, those are wrapped in a fabric and leather combo. Also present inside the Veloz is a push-to-start button, an automatic air-conditioning system with tactile knob controls, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, and LED ambient lighting, among others.

Like the Avanza, the all-new Veloz also gets the same Long Sofa seat configuration. This means that all of its seats can be folded down to provide a flat lying surface for its occupants. The second row itself comes with a 60:40 split function, while the third-row can be tumbled down in a 50:50 split. 

Tech & Safety 

On the dashboard of the top-spec Veloz V is a nine-inch touchscreen headunit that’s paired with six speakers. This headunit also gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. The entry-level Veloz G gets a smaller eight-inch headunit, but it pretty much has the same connectivity options like the one on the Veloz V.

For safety, the all-new Veloz's top-spec model comes kitted out with the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) driver-assist suite. This means that it comes standard with blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, a pre-collision system, lane departure alert, and automatic high beams.

Furthermore, the Veloz V also comes with the factory with a 360-degree view camera. It also has the usual equipment present on modern car models. We’re talking about features such as anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, parking sensors, a car alarm, and engine immobilizer.  

Engine & Performance 

Under the hood, the all-new Philippine-spec Veloz uses the same 1.5-liter 2NR-VE inline-4 gasoline engine that the Toyota Avanza G uses. At the most, this four-banger can churn out 105 horsepower 138 Nm of torque.

Like the version sold in Thailand, the Veloz for the Philippines uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a sequential gear shift manual mode. Power is then sent to its front wheels. 

For suspension, the all-new Veloz uses a MacPherson strut for the front, and a torsion beam type suspension for its rear. Braking for this model is then handled by disc brakes for all four wheels, and it also gets an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function. 

Pricing

Of note, the Philippine-spec Toyota Veloz comes in two variants. It’s the Veloz G CVT and for the ones in Purplish Silver Mica Metallic, Black Metallic 1, and Dark Red Metallic, it has a suggested retail price of Php 1,185,000. The Veloz G CVT in Platinum White Pearl Mica in turn, is a bit pricier at Php 1,200,000.

Then there's the top-spec Veloz V CVT, which starts at Php 1,225,000. In Platinum White Pearl Mica, its price then sits at php 1,240,000.
