Toyota PH to launch 2022 Veloz soon

Are we getting the Avanza's fancier, better-equipped sibling?

Toyota Motor Philippines released a teaser showing a new compact SUV. It wasn’t stated in the said teaser as to what this model is, but it could most likely be the all-new 2022 Veloz.

The teaser video posted on Toyota PH's official Facebook page

The teaser doesn’t give much as to what exactly Toyota PH will be launching. But, a closer look at it will give you a similar shape as to the 2022 Avanza that was launched back in May. That said, you can see a pair of sharp headlights as well as a quadrilateral grille on the teaser that’s clad in shadow.

For a second in the teaser video, one can also see the vehicle's angular lower bumper, and side vents. Beyond that though, not much else can be seen or known about this upcoming compact SUV. If we referenced the Toyota Veloz available in other markets like Indonesia though, there is much that can be gleaned.

The Toyota Veloz is currently sold in other ASEAN markets

For starters, the Veloz like the Avanza, uses a unibody platform and a front engine/front-wheel-drive layout. The Indo-spec model is also powered by a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that can deliver 105 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque. So yeah, it pretty much shares the same mechanicals as the Avanza.

The local version of the Avanza gets a five-speed manual gearbox and a four-speed automatic transmission. As such, we can assume that if what was teased was indeed the Veloz, then it might as well get a four-speed automatic tranny as well.

The top-spec Veloz for Indonesia clearly has some tricks that the Avanza doesn’t have. For starters, it gets the Toyota Safety Sense kit. This collection of features includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure assist, a pre-collision system, front departure alert, among others.

The current Avanza being sold locally does have blind-spot monitoring, but it doesn’t get the full feature list of the Toyota Safety kit that’s present on the Indonesian Veloz.

Inside, it also gets a nine-inch touchscreen, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless smartphone charging, fabric-leather seats, and a two-tone colored cabin.

To this end, we are hopeful that the Philippine-spec version of the Veloz might also come with the Toyota Safety Sense suite, as well as the other features mentioned above.
