Last year, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) brought back the Lite Ace to cater to the mobility demand in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). But the company is showcasing that the light commercial vehicle (CV) can do so much more than that by teaming up with Basa Bookstore.
Toyota partnered with Basa Bookstore to mobilize the Lakbay-Kuwentuhan
The Toyota Lite Ace is tasked to deliver books to children under the Lakbay-Kuwentuhan, an educational campaign and storytelling caravan. In the first leg of the campaign, the vehicle toured different provinces to raise awareness about the importance of education among Filipino children and encourage them to read books.
“When we started the book-giving caravan amidst a pandemic and after Typhoon Ulysses, Toyota was eager to support our cause,” said Basa Bookstore Founder and Chief Storytelling Officer Rey Bufi.
This year alone, the campaign aims to give away 5,000 books to public schools, reach 10,000 students, and facilitate 20 storytelling workshops for 1,000 public school teachers across the country. Last February, the caravan traveled around South Luzon including Laguna, Quezon, and Albay, among others.
5,000 books are expected to be given away in 2023
The book-hauling operations are being made possible with the Lite Ace’s 1.5-liter 2NR-VE inline-4 gasoline engine also found in the Veloz and Avanza. It is capable of generating 97 horsepower and 134 Nm of torque. As standard, the engine is connected to a 5-speed manual transmission.
With over 2,430 km traveled, the Toyota Lite Ace helped Basa Bookstore to reach 12 communities, as well as serve more than 3,000 students. The campaign has also conducted three workshops and given six storytelling sessions in its last caravan.
“Part of promoting better quality of life for Filipinos is nurturing young minds and providing them with the tools for continuous earning. We at TMP believe that all children deserve quality education as this will prepare them for their future and help mold them into the person they hope to become,” said TMP Assistant Vice President of Marketing Services Department Elvin Luciano.

The Toyota Lite Ace is available in various configurations, with the caravan utilizing the Panel Van variant. Other configurations offered by TMP include Pickup, Cargo, and FX.
