The nameplate has come a long way since 1966.

Toyota Motor Corporation announced that the Corolla nameplate managed to sell over 50 million units globally since its introduction in 1966. The long-time running Toyota model has even further solidified its name as the best-selling car model in the world, besting the Volkswagen Beetle, and Ford T-Series.

12th-gen Toyota Corolla

In 1966, Chief Engineer Tatsuo Hasegawa wanted the Toyota Corolla to provide features that bring happiness and well-being around the world. The Japanese automaker continued this philosophy over these last 55 years and fortunately, it helped the nameplate to achieve the said global sales milestone.

Now on its 12th-generation model, the Toyota Corolla is developed with cutting-edge features to further enhance its reputation in the market. Toyota Motor Corporation introduced the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), as well as the Toyota Safety Sense for improved safety features and advanced driver assistance technologies.

Toyota Corolla Cross

With the growing network of the best-selling model, the company expanded it with the new Toyota Corolla Cross. It aims to adapt to the fast-growing SUV market globally while retaining characteristics from the original version. Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) offers this new model in the local market with a starting price of Php 1,285,000.

First-generation Toyota Corolla

In a recent study, Toyota is selling over 24,000 cars globally daily. To note, one out of five models is a Corolla. This is a testament to the nameplate’s continuous development that has exceeded expectations in various areas of car ownership including performance, safety, aesthetics, reliability, technology, and durability.

“On behalf of Toyota, we would like to thank and express our deep appreciation to all Toyota dealers and Corolla owners who have contributed to this global milestone. We are confident with your continued and enthusiastic support, Corolla will remain a well-loved and trusted model for decades to come,” said Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mr. Hao Tien.
