The Japanese automaker has a strong global foothold.

In the Philippines, Toyota has been the leading car brand for the longest time. Its strong foothold in the local market can simply be measured by the number of Toyotas you see on Philippine roads.

Toyota Vios

Last year, Toyota Motor Philippines is the best-selling car brand in the country. That sales performance is carried on this year as it managed to be the car brand that sold the most vehicles during the first six months of 2021. Indeed, this Japanese car brand is showing no signs of slowing down.

Toyota’s strong sales performance in the Philippines is driven by the Vios. The said subcompact sedan has been one of the best-selling cars in the local market. The Toyota Vios showed its dominance in the Philippines as it registered 16,807 units sold in the first half of 2021.

Aside from the local market, the Japanese automaker’s market share is also evident in the global market. In 2020, Toyota has reclaimed the throne of the world’s best-selling car brand, snatching the crown from Volkswagen’s five-year reign.

Car Sales by Leasing Options

Toyota leads the pack

According to a study released by UK’s Leasing Options, Toyota sold more than 8.6 million vehicles globally in 2020. Volkswagen, on the other hand, registered about 5.3 million units, which is more than 3 million units short of Toyota’s 2020 global car sales.

Completing the top three car brands in terms of global sales is Nissan with 4 million units sold. Hyundai and Kia clinched the fourth and fifth spot, respectively. Hyundai sold 3.7 million cars while Kia posted 2.6 million.

The study also dug deeper into the numbers as it presented a more specific breakdown of interesting findings. One of which is by looking at the average number of cars each top brand sells per day, and even per hour. Based on the study, Toyota sells about 23,814 vehicles globally per day, and it is said to have the capacity of selling up to 992 cars every hour.

Japan sits in the second spot with 6,960,025, a number far off as to what China was able to deliver. The third spot is occupied by Germany with 3,515,372 produced vehicles.
