The majority of the car brands in the Philippines are registering better sales numbers this 2021 as compared to last year, a good sign for the local automotive industry. As the third quarter (Q3) of the year closes, we now have a better glimpse of car brands that are excelling in terms of unit sales. Here are the top-selling car brands in the Philippines as of September 2021.
Toyota Motor Philippines leads the pack when it comes to unit sales
Same as the previous years, Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) currently sits at the top of the food chain as it posted 91,925 units sold from January to September 2021. TMP’s sales translate into a commanding 48 percent market share, which indicates that Toyota continues to be the most preferred car brand in the Philippines.
The Vios is currently the best-selling car in the Philippines
The Vios remains to be the most popular Toyota in the country as it recorded 24,466 units sold from January to September 2021. The Hilux pickup truck sits in as the second best-selling Toyota with 13,300 units sold while the Wigo takes the third spot with 12,606 units sold. Of note, the Japanese car brand has now already sold 100 units of the GR Yaris since its local launch last August 2021.
The closest rival of TMP is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) as it registered 26,824 units sold as of September 2021. MMPC’s sales performance was driven by the L300 with 8,033 units sold. The demand for the L300 commercial vehicle could be attributed to the sudden rise of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) due to the pandemic.
Mitsubishi Xpander seven-seater MPV
The Xpander seven-seater MPV is currently the second best-selling Mitsubishi with 7,692 units sold. It is followed by the Mirage G4 with 4,567 units sold.
