In a recent press release, it was confirmed that the Subaru WRX-GTB Sportwagon is coming to Australia and New Zealand in the second quarter of 2022. The WRX-GTB is the wagon version of the second-generation 2022 Subaru WRX, and in Oceania, it replaces the Subaru Levorg. For that matter, it is practically a Levorg with different bumpers and a different engine.

Speaking of engines, the new WRX-GTB uses the same 2.4-liter turbo mill that the WRX uses. At most, this boxer-four engine can make 271 horsepower and 349 Nm of torque. For transmissions, it can either get a performance-tuned Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) with eight simulated gears, or a five-speed manual gearbox. The aforementioned CVT comes with a paddle shifter to handle manual mode.
And being a Subaru, the WRX-GTB wagon will of course come with all-wheel-drive. It also uses the new Subaru Global Platform, which underpins the 2022 Subaru WRX, the 2022 Subaru Levorg, as well as the new Subaru XV.
Apart from getting a wagon body with lots more storage, the upcoming WRX-GTB has also shed the aggressive amount of cladding the recently released 2022 WRX had received. Then again, it gets the same headlamps and the same taillights.

As for its interior, Subaru is yet to provide photos. But we can assume that like the 2022 WRX, the WRX-GTB will also get an 11.6-inch touchscreen headunit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also a great possibility that the interior styling will also be identical to the sedan version.
Subaru has also confirmed that this new wagon model will come equipped with the marque’s EyeSight Driver Assist technologies. On the 2022 WRX, this collection of driver-assist features includes adaptive cruise control, lane centering, autonomous braking and steering, blind spot detection, among others.

For the Philippines, Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc. (Subaru Philippines) shared with us that the WRX-GTB wagon is meant for markets that don’t have the Levorg. This is the case with Australia and New Zealand which will be discontinuing the Levorg model. As such, this is an indication that a WRX wagon will not be making a Philippine debut anytime soon. Although, it has been confirmed by an insider in Subaru PH that the new 2022 WRX is indeed coming to our shores.
