After rolling out teasers about the arrival of the next-generation Subaru WRX, the Japanese automaker has now officially set a launch date for the new AWD sedan. The all-new 2022 Subaru WRX will make its debut at the New York International Auto Show happening on August 19, 2021.

Subaru has been discreet in revealing important details regarding the updates on the next-gen model. However, one can expect that the new Subaru WRX model will still bear the brand’s all-wheel-drive system, a turbocharged flat-four engine, and a sporty compact sedan styling that has become the model’s trademark.

Based on previous teaser photos, the next-gen Subaru WRX will still be designed with its signature hood scoop that gives it a high-performance look. Complement that with its dual exhaust tips on the rear end and the black trims on the wheel arches that provide an aggressive finish, and you have a sporty compact sedan that looks like it’s ready to take any challenges on the road.

Under the hood, the upcoming 2022 model is expected to be powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, replacing the current WRX’s 2.0-liter Boxer gasoline engine. The new engine is capable of generating 260 and 376 Nm of torque. Although it gets eight less horsepower, it benefits from an additional 26 Nm of torque.
