Motor Image Pilipinas (MIP), the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the country, previously announced that it will be launching several models from 2021 to 2022. That said, the seven-seater Evoltis, and the facelifted XV are already available in the Philippines. Now, Subaru Philippines is about to launch a new model yet again by next month, which is the 2022 Outback.
The sixth-generation Subaru Outback BT. It was initially unveiled in 2019
The local launch of the all-new Outback was initially planned to be during the first half of 2021. However, it has been delayed due to the global microchip shortage. As such, the all-new 2022 Subaru Outback sixth-gen, will be launched in the Philippine market sometime in August 2021. Subaru dealerships are now also accepting reservations for the aforementioned model.
As for pricing, the new Outback will come with a price tag of Php 2.380 million with a Php 50,000 introductory discount. Of note, the outgoing Outback has a sticker price of Php 2.408 million. So yes, the new one is priced lower than the old model.
The upcoming Outback from the rear
Despite being cheaper, the upcoming Outback will feature an updated version of the Subaru EyeSight driver assist safety suite. Its adaptive cruise control can now deal with full-speed travel, it now has autonomous emergency steering, and the lane departure warning system can now vibrate the car’s steering wheel.
Moreover, there’s the new Driver Monitoring System, which uses cabin cameras to detect the state of the person behind the wheel. So essentially, the car will know if you’re distracted or drowsy, and it will respond accordingly with alerts.
For driver amenities, the all-new Outback is more likely to feature an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The said screen will then be linked to a 12-piece Harman Kardon speaker system.
Note that these pictures are of the global version and the Philippine version might look a bit different
As for its mechanical bits, the 2022 Outback will of course get a symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. For propulsion, it will be using a 2.5-liter flat-4 engine paired with a continuously variable transmission. The said engine is naturally aspirated, and it is capable of producing up to 169 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. And no, it appears that the Philippine market won’t be getting a turbocharged version again.
