The race to sustainability has been the goal of many industries including the automotive sector. Apart from automakers, companies such as Shell also joins the campaign for a better and greener future. Its latest initiative is the switching to renewable energy at the operations of the Shell Mamplasan in Laguna.
Shell Mamplasan will use renewable energy from SEPH
Located at South Luzon Expressway, Biñan, Laguna, the Shell Mamplasan will be powered by renewable energy from Shell Energy Philippines (SEPH). The station with Shell Recharge charging points, the company’s dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, will be powered through a mix of solar, geothermal, and hydro energies.
Present at the launching ceremony were Shell companies in the Philippines Country Chair Lorelie Quiambao-Osial, General Manager of Shell Energy Philippines, Inc. Bernd Krukenberg, and Pilipinas Shell Vice President and General Manager for Mobility Randy Del Valle.
“The switching to renewable energy at our operations shows our commitment to reducing our own carbon emissions. We continue to work with partners in the decarbonization journey as we transition to a lower carbon economy,” said Lorelie Quiambao-Osial.

According to Shell, the sustainable solutions help reduce energy consumption by approximately 30 percent as compared to a traditional site. As the country is starting to grow the EV market, the switching to renewable energy will complement the Shell Recharge, which debuted in the aforementioned station.
In our report earlier this year, the Shell Recharge costs Php 65 per minute, with the charging time averaging around 30 minutes. It is mostly compatible with European EVs but also gets CHAdeMO fast-charging systems, a standard on electrified Japanese cars. Shell Philippines vows to build more charging stations in the future.
Shell looks to achieve its 2050 net-zero emissions target
With the switching to renewable energy sources, the Shell Mamplasan station is now the company’s second mobility site to be powered by SEPH. The first station is the Shell North Luzon Tollway 1 (NLT1) in Balagtas, Bulacan.
