Baguio City to launch test run for COMET electric mini-bus

In a bid to further reduce carbon emissions and preserve its natural splendor for generations to come, the City Government of Baguio has turned to bring in a fleet of electrified buses to serve public transport. The said buses are provided by the Lopez Group-owned Global Electric Transport (GET).

The minibus in question is the Community Optimized Managed Electric Transport (COMET) mini-bus model from GET. As mentioned, it is a fully electric vehicle that uses a 53 kWh lithium ferrophosphate battery. The said battery then powers an electric motor that’s capable of producing up to 160 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque.  

The GET COMET is also capable of seating up to 18 occupants. Plus, it can accommodate 12 standing persons as well. That’s a total of 30 passengers, which is certainly a whole lot more than the traditional jeepney or UV Express.  

On top of its relatively peppy electric motor and considerable passenger capacity, the GET COMET can also get a range of 100 kilometers in just half an hour of charging. It is also equipped with a wheelchair slot and electric ramp for better access for persons with disabilities (PWD). Also present aboard this EV bus is a security camera, breakable window panels, and a programmable speed limiter. It is fully air-conditioned as well.

Access to rides on the GET COMET in Baguio City is also made easy. All you need to do to ride one is to download the GET-Pass app from the Google Play Store.  

As of the writing of this article, the GET COMET bus service in Baguio City is available for the Mines View Line from November 20 to November 26. It will then shift to service the Aurora Hill Line from November 27 to December 3.  

During the said test stages, the ride is free. Do note though that the GET COMET bus service for the said city will follow designated pick-up and drop-off points. For more information on this, do contact the Baguio City Traffic and Management Division.
