Big things are coming for the brand.

MG Philippines has welcomed SAIC Motor Philippines, Inc. (SMP) as its new importer and distributor in the country. SMP replaces The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), which currently distributes Chevrolet products in the local market.

During a recent event, SMP disclosed some of its plans for the market including introducing three new electric vehicles (EVs) – MG 4, MG ZS EV, and MG Marvel R. The company only held a preview so the official specs for these cars are yet to be revealed. But we can check out the global models to see what we can expect from the upcoming EVs.

The MG 4 is an all-electric crossover featuring sharp styling cues. It can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 35 minutes using a 150 kW DC fast charger and run 450 km (WLTP-rated) on a single charge. MG also claims the vehicle can go from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

Meanwhile, the MG ZS EV is the all-electric version of the subcompact crossover we Filipinos are familiar with. Regarding EV capabilities, the ZS EV has a range of 440 km (WLTP-rated) and can charge up to 80 percent in about 40 minutes using a 92 kW fast charger.

The MG Marvel R is an all-electric compact crossover rebadged from the Rising Marvel R, which is also under SAIC Motor. Arriving as a more premium offering in the lineup, the Marvel R gets a 402 km WLTP-rated range, and a 90 kW fast charger that can power up the battery up to 80 percent in 40 minutes.

But again, those specs mentioned above are from the global models. We won’t have to wait for long for their local specs, though, as SMP is targeting to launch the three EVs by the fourth quarter of this year.

Aside from the new model lineup, the company will also look to increase the number of MG dealerships from 42 to 60 by 2025.

“Today, we mark the beginning of a new era in the Philippine automotive industry, one that will lead a new wave of exceptional vehicles,” said SAIC Motor Philippines, Inc. President Felix Jiang.

“SAIC Motor Philippines is poised to make a resounding impact in the automotive landscape, setting new benchmarks, and redefining what it means to drive with excellence,” said Jiang.
