Upon launch, it is then considered as an additional model to be sold side by side with the MG 5. Think of it as a sportier alternative to the latter. That said, it may be able to rival the likes of the Toyota Vios GR-S.

Before getting to the nitty-gritty details of the 2023 MG GT, it is worth mentioning that the local upcoming version’s looks are confirmed to be identical to that of the foreign market models.

Up its front end is an angry-looking “3D Digital Flame” grille, a set of sizable air vents, and a pair of sharp-looking headlamps. The side profile likewise, is filled with sharp character lines while its rear then gets a ducktail spoiler and a pair of “LED racetrack” taillights.

The Sport trim gets dual exhaust tips as well

The Sport and the Alpha variants of the upcoming MG GT then get plenty of amenities. Present on the two variants are the following: leather seats, an electric sunroof, cruise control, as well as a 12.3-inch virtual cluster with a 7-inch LCD display. Also standard aboard the GT is a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen headunit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Sport variant in particular gets a leg up over the Alpha when it comes to safety features. This is because it is the only trim that gets a lane departure and forward collision warning system as well as an intelligent high-beam control. It also has more airbags due to it having curtain airbags. Both variants do come with front and side airbags though.

But apart from having a more comprehensive safety kit, the Sport trim’s powertrain is also more powerful than the Alpha’s. While both use 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline mills, the turbocharged engine on the high-spec MG GT Sport variant can make up to 158 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.

The naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine on the lower-spec Alpha meanwhile, can generate up to 111 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque.

The two trims also use different gearboxes. On the Alpha is an intelligent continuously variable transmission (I-CVT) with eight simulated gears for its manual mode. The Sport trim, on the other hand, utilizes a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Moreover, only the Sport comes with paddle shifters.
