The MG GT was launched in China two years ago. Following that, it was revealed in October 2022 that some stocks of this model have already reached local shores. Recently though, one can say that its local launch might happen soon due to the fact that the GT has made an appearance at The Covenant Car Company Inc’s (TCCCI) 2022 MG Dealers appreciation night.
The upcoming 2023 MG GT
The MG GT is classed as a subcompact sedan. It is expected to go up against the likes of the Toyota Vios, Honda City, Geely Emgrand, among others. But its size places it to be longer and wider than the Toyota Corolla Altis. Specifically, it measures 4,675mm long, 1,842mm wide, and 1,480mm in height.
Not much in terms of specs has been officially revealed to the public, but the photos floating around on social media indicate that it will be well-equipped. Looks-wise, it will sport the guise of the third-generation model released in China. Up front, it bears a pair of sharp LED headlamps, and a pouty and aggressive grille. There are also some bits of chrome trim on its side.
The MG GT's interior
For the interior, there’s a good chance that it will be getting leather seats, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. It might even come with a digital gauge cluster, as well as a floating-type touchscreen headunit.
If we consider the engines available to other markets, then the PH-spec MG GT might come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that can make 173 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. A naturally aspirated version could then be available on the lower-spec version.
It is also speculated that each variant will be getting its own separate gearboxes. For the turbo model, it will use a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The lower-spec model meanwhile could come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a manual mode.
The MG GT from the rear
The upcoming 2023 MG GT will sit together with the MG5 in the same subcompact category. Then again, MG Philippines might be able to position this upcoming model much like how the MG ZS T is a more premium option in the ZS lineup.
It is also rumored that the MG GT will start at Php 995,888. The higher-spec model is then expected to garner a price tag just above Php 1 million.
