The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that it successfully opened two new EDSA busways stations, which are situated on Roxas Boulevard and Taft Avenue.
New EDSA busways have been opened
Present at the opening ceremony were key officials from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and DOTr including Secretary Jaime J. Bautista. He emphasized that the agency will continue to look for solutions that will provide a safe and convenient commute for Filipinos.
“Dito po sa Department of Transportation, hindi po tayo titigil. Mag-iisip tayo ng paraan para magkaroon po ng accessible, affordable, convenient, and safe travel para sa ating lahat,” said Bautista.
(We at the Department of Transportation won’t stop. We will continue to come up with ways to provide everyone an accessible, affordable, convenient, and safe travel.)
Bautista thanked everyone who made the project happen
A dedicated median lane for buses is featured with stations built at the media island. This allows an efficient traffic flow by avoiding conflict with connecting streets and driveways, among others. According to the agency, the project has reduced travel time from Mall of Asia to Monumento from two to three hours to one hour and 30 minutes.
The Roxas Boulevard and Taft Avenue stations are just two of the 11 EDSA busway stations DOTr look to complete. Bautista also recently said that he is willing to ride public utility vehicles to understand the issues and concerns that Filipino commuters might have with the local public transportation.
The DOTr will find ways to make commuting safe and comfortable
During the ceremony, Bautista commended the agency’s private and government partnership for their support to promote safe and comfortable travel for commuters.
“Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng tumulong para ito ay maganap. Unang una sa MMDA. Nagpapasalamat din ako sa Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Sila po ay instrumental para maitayo itong additional bus stations natin” added Bautista.
(I want to thank everyone who helped complete this project, firstly the MMDA. I also thank the Department of Public Works and Highways. They are instrumental in the construction of these additional bus stations.)
