High marks for these British icons.

The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has given both the new 2022 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models a five-star safety rating.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport

For adult occupant protection, the Range Rover D300 SE model that was tested scored 84 percent out of a hundred for adult occupant safety. It also garnered a child occupant safety rating of 87 percent, and vulnerable road user rating of 72 percent.

The Range Rover Sport Petrol PHEV SE that was tested meanwhile, received a slightly better adult occupant safety rating of 85 percent. It also got a child safety rating of 85 percent, and a vulnerable road user safety rating of 69 percent.

As a side note, the vulnerable road user category refers to a vehicle’s capability of causing the least damage to unprotected persons they might share on a road. This refers to cyclists, as well as pedestrians.

On top of those, both models also achieved a safety assist rating of 82 percent. This refers to the various driver-assistive features that are present on both Land Rovers. These include autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, a 3D surround camera, a driver condition monitor, rear collision monitoring, among others.

For the Philippine market, our versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport may also come with the same safety kit as the European models that were tested by Euro NCAP. To that end, one may expect the same level of safety from the locally available models.

The Land Rover Range Rover

In its most powerful form, the Ranger Rover uses a 3.0-liter diesel engine that’s capable of producing up to 300 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. The Range Rover Sport’s beefiest variant meanwhile, gets a 3.0-liter PHEV gasoline powertrain capable of delivering up to 440 horsepower and 620 Nm of torque.

Locally, these are sold by Land Rover Philippines, which in turn, is managed by All British Cars Inc. Price-wise, the Land Rover Range Rover starts at Php 18 million, while the Range Rover Sport starts at Php 13.4 million.
