In an effort to strengthen the fleet of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will turn over 284 units of Toyota Hilux 4x2 patrol jeep for the second batch. The units will come with a different configuration that meets the requirement of the PNP and will be dispatched to different regions in the country.
New Hilux units were added to PNP's fleet
The first batch was handed over to the country’s police force last November 8 which consists of 127 Hilux jeep patrol units. Former PNP Chief Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar and National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Vice Chairman Vitaliano Aguirre II graced the turnover ceremony at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame.
PNP is expected to further improve its operations considering that the Toyota Hilux is one of the most reliable and durable workhorses in the local market. As a testament to that, the Japanese automaker managed to sell 10,642 units of the Hilux, which makes it the second best-selling model last 2020.
The Toyota Hilux 4x2 patrol jeep units are fitted with an open cab configuration at the back to easily monitor areas, as well as for faster access in and out of the truck. All come with 15-inch steel wheels, while the suspension setup comprises leaf spring at the rear and double-wishbone at the front.
The trucks will keep the streets safer
Under the hood, the patrol jeeps use a 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV turbodiesel engine that makes 148 hp and 343 Nm of torque. It exclusively sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The truck offers a 1,005 kg of payload capacity which should be enough for transporting police personnel and violators.
It is still unclear as to when TMP will send out the second batch of Hilux patrol jeeps to PNP. But once it is signed and delivered, the units are seen with great significance in maintaining order in the police force’s day-to-day operations especially now that the National Capital Region (NCR) has been placed under the less strict Alert Level 2.
