It is an open secret that Volkswagen Philippines will soon add another model to its roster with the upcoming Tharu. Now, the company revealed prospective buyers will be looking at an estimated pricing of Php 1.8 million and Php 1.95 million for the base 300 TSI DSG SE and top-spec 300 TSI DSG SEL, respectively.
Volkswagen Tharu
The VW Tharu is a compact crossover that will be slotted above the T-Cross in the local crossover lineup. As a compact crossover, the Tharu will go up against the likes of the Ford Territory, Hyundai Tucson, and Toyota Corolla Cross.
Based on the units that arrived on our shores, the two variants could come with noticeably different styling. One has a sporty appeal with the red accents on the wheels, while the other gets a more straightforward finish along with a lower bumper accent similar to the pre-facelifted PH-spec T-Cross
While the full specifications have yet to be disclosed, Volkswagen Philippines said the model will be equipped with features such as matrix LED headlights with an adaptive front lighting system (AFS), a panoramic sunroof, a virtual pedal tailgate, and intelligent park assist.
It is the brand's compact crossover entry
Looking at the Tharu in China, where the units will most likely be sourced, the 300 TSI could indicate a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine for the upcoming crossover. It makes 158 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the DSG should indicate the use of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
Volkswagen Philippines will launch the all-new Tharu at Karrera Café in Filinvest City, Alabang, Muntinlupa on September 29. On September 30 and October 1, the company will hold a test drive opportunity at the same venue, which will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Interested individuals are encouraged to reserve a unit at any VW dealership including in BGC, Greenfield Mandaluyong, Pampanga, Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao.
