MG Philippines announced that it will introduce a new model to its Philippine lineup next week. From the looks of it, the British-bred car brand is talking about the facelifted MG ZS. What’s more exciting about the teaser photo hints at the presence of a turbocharged engine which should appeal to more Filipino car buyers in the market.
This is the facelifted MG ZS in overseas markets
Not a lot of official details have been disclosed by the car brand for the upcoming PH-spec MG ZS. But if we look at the updates on the facelift, it should come with a new and sportier-looking face that consists of a redesigned grille, reworked headlights, simpler yet sleeker daytime running lights (DRLs), and revised fog lamp housings.
Moving to the side, the facelifted model does look pretty similar to the outgoing model. The only significant update is the new 17-inch alloy wheels, now with a sporty finish. This complements the redesigned front fascia which shows continuity in design.
The two-tone interior of the facelifted model
And at the rear, the new subcompact crossover comes with silver trim on the leaner, blacked-out bumper that depicts a twin exhaust design. It also comes with redesigned LED taillights, and a new reflector design with honeycomb vents. Overall, the design changes are subtle, yet manage to bring out a sportier finish.
Stepping inside the vehicle, the cabin styling is similar to the old model. This means that the facelifted MG ZS still offers a familiar interior layout paired with a panoramic sunroof, although there’s a new two-tone finish that gives a brighter appeal.
A sportier finish from the front to the back
Moreover, the MG ZS facelift is equipped with a larger and improved 10.1-inch infotainment that now supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A fully digital instrument panel also contributes to the enhanced onboard tech. However, these features could vary depending on the market so we can only find out once it makes its local debut.
As for the engine, the refreshed version still uses the same 1.5-liter gasoline but now comes with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), replacing the 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. And in a report by Autoindustrya.com, the new PH-spec ZST (turbocharged) will be added to the range which is powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine, amping the power up to 161 hp and 230 Nm of torque.
