Through its official Facebook page, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that it will be implementing a one-way traffic scheme at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex. To be exact, this will include the Atang Dela Rama street (V. Sotto to Buendia), Buendia (A. Dela Rama to Jalandoni), and Jalandoni (Buendia to V. Sotto).
The MMDA's official post regarding the temporary one-way traffic scheme at the CCP Complex
The said traffic scheme will start at 5 a.m. on Friday, October 1 until October 8. This is in connection with the upcoming election, specifically the week-long filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) and the certification of nomination and acceptance (CONA) with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
To this end, the MMDA advises that motorists looking to travel over the said roads during the aforementioned times should look for alternate routes.
As to why the temporary one-way traffic scheme is necessary for the filing of the said documents, we presume that it might be connected to providing security for candidates who will be filing their COCs and CONAs.
In connection to this, many netizens have posted questions, queries, and suggestions. One prevailing question is, “Why can’t these necessary documents be filed online?” By doing so, citizens won’t be affected.
Others also made their grievances known, saying that it is regrettable that this implies that taxpayers are the ones pushed to adjust for the sake of the candidates. The one-way scheme, after all, can potentially cause further traffic congestion in the area.
In front of the CCP Complex is Roxas Blvd. It isn't included in the announcement, but we reckon it will be affected
Many also asked if the truck ban is already in effect. According to the MMDA, the truck ban ordinance is still suspended for the entirety of Metro Manila except EDSA.
Do note that while it isn’t included, Roxas Blvd. might be affected by the one-way traffic scheme that will be enforced on the roads around CCP. After all, it's a thoroughfare where numerous trucks pass through, most of which are travelling to and from the port area in the city of Manila.
