NLEX Corporation announced earlier this year that it aims to advance the construction of its three infrastructure projects under its ‘2022 Expansion Plan.’ The NLEX Connector is included in the list, showing huge improvements since the construction began last May 2019.
The NLEX Connector España section is expected to be completed this 2022
So much so that the toll road company recently stated that the NLEX Connector’s España section is set to be completed within this year. The expressway project consists of two sections, namely España serving as the first section, and Sta. Mesa as the other.
Running between the C3 Caloocan Interchange and the España district in Manila, the España section is a 5-km elevated expressway that is now at 70-percent completion. It will be connected to the Sta. Mesa section, a 3-km elevated expressway between the España Interchange and the vicinity of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).
Upon the completion of the entirety of the NLEX Connector, the expressway is expected to accommodate 35,000 motorists daily. NLEX Corporation will allow all vehicle classes to traverse this thoroughfare, including trucks.
A massive expressway project for relieving traffic congestion in Metro Manila
With that being said, the company is expecting the NLEX Connector to reduce traffic on busy roads such as EDSA and C5. Another significant benefit of the expressway is that it will enhance accessibility to international airports such as NAIA and Clark, which should help spur development between Metro Manila and its surrounding provinces.
“We continue to actively contribute to our country’s economic recovery by ramping up our infrastructure improvements that aim to enhance the mobility and safety of motorists,” said NLEX Corporation President J. Luigi L. Bautista.
Furthermore, the 2022 Expansion Plan also sees the construction of the NLEX C5 Link and the Candaba Third Viaduct. The NLEX C5 Link project is an 11.5-km expressway that aims to cut travel time between Mindanao Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue to 10 minutes, while the Candaba Third Viaduct project will expand the 5-km bridge for safer and more convenient travel.
