It aims to cut travel time from 45 minutes to just 10.

NLEX Corporation has been relentlessly working to both rehabilitate its existing roads (such as its two old bridges) and construct new ones. The latest project of the toll road company is the new 2-kilometer expressway section situated between the existing Mindanao Avenue toll plaza and Quirino Highway in Novaliches, Quezon City.

The project is part of the 11.5-kilometer NLEX-C5 Link Project that connects expressways in and around Quezon City. It is set to begin construction within the second half of the year. Upon completion, the new expressway is expected to accommodate up to 45,000 motorists daily, reducing travel time between Mindanao Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue to 10 minutes from the usual 45 minutes.

“The construction of this new P2-billion expressway section will be welcome news for NLEX commuters who currently face daily traffic gridlock in the congested portions of Mindanao Avenue,” said NLEX Corporation President and General Manager J. Luigi L. Bautista.

Efforts are being made to reduce travel time in Metro Manila

According to NLEX Corporation, the new 2-kilometer Mindanao Avenue-Quirino Highway segment aims to help revive the economy, which has suffered from the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. The road will also provide an alternate route to the ports of Manila via NLEX Harbor Link to the new Navotas Interchange along Mel Lopez, R-10.

“Eventually, this section will be integrated into the future of NLEX expansion to C5/C.P. Garcia near Katipunan Avenue. We foresee an interconnected tollway network that will be accessible to the west, east, north, and south sides of Metro Manila,” added Bautista.

Another ongoing project from NLEX Corporation to reduce traffic in Metro Manila is the NLEX Connector in Manila. It aims to connect the Caloocan Interchange and Sta. Mesa using two sections. Upon completion, it is expected to accommodate 35,000 motorists daily, reducing travel time from NLEX to SLEX to just 20 minutes instead of two hours.
