One can say that the next-gen Honda HR-V has what it takes to shake up its segment with its new features and updated powertrain including a turbocharged mill. It also showcases a more contemporary exterior design that debuted last year in its homeland, Japan.
The round roofline of the outgoing HR-V has been replaced with straighter structures, creating a more rugged SUV finish. But just like the old one, the next-gen version still utilizes a hidden rear door handle design. A large redesigned grille mediates the new pair of headlights, while the rear end sports full-width LED taillights.

Included in the available color options are Ignite Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Premium Opal White Silver, and Meteoroid Gray Metallic. Take note, the Meteoroid Gray Metallic and Premium Opal White come with an additional Php 20,000, while the latter is exclusive to the top-of-the-line V variant.
Inside, the comfort and convenience for passengers are emphasized with the new subcompact crossover’s human-centric cabin layout. HCPI said that the interior will come with features that will “serve the needs of the driver and passengers.” Some of which include new airconditioning with air diffusion and an updated infotainment system.
It will be out on April 19
Major updates have been made under the hood as the outgoing model’s 1.8-liter SOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine is discontinued. It is replaced by a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine for the base S variant and a 1.5-liter VTEC turbocharged engine for the top-spec V variant. The said 1.5-liter VTEC turbo engine is expected to be the same as the one equipped on the all-new Civic. Both are connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Another significant update is the integration of the brand’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) called Honda Sensing. The upcoming HR-V will be joining the all-new Civic, Civic Type R, CR-V, and Accord as the models equipped with Honda’s ADAS locally. Moreover, this follows HCPI’s recent statement that all upcoming models will get the Honda Sensing.
Here is the list of the PH-spec Honda HR-V’s Honda Sensing features:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF)
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
- Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LWD)
- Auto High-Beam (AHB)
- Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN)
HCPI will launch the next-gen HR-V on April 19 at 2:00 p.m. virtually via its official Facebook page. It will be offered in two variants starting from Php 1,300,000 for the S CVT to Php 1,600,000 for the Turbo CVT. Interested individuals can start to reserve by April 1, 2022.
