Subaru has started the countdown towards the unveiling of a new SUV. While not a lot of details have been revealed, one can expect that the Japanese marque is talking about the next-gen version of the XV subcompact crossover.
A new Subaru SUV is bound to be unveiled
The current second-gen Subaru XV is on its fifth year in the lineup, leading us to believe that the subcompact crossover is due for an all-new version. Its PH-spec model received a facelift last year, which comes with enhancements to the design and suspension system as well as the addition of Dual X-Mode and SI-Drive.
Looking at the 15-second teaser video, the “Subaru new SUV” has redesigned headlamps with the brand’s signature DRLs. It gets a familiar grille as seen on the current version, with the silhouette strongly hinting that it could be the XV. Moreover, the revamped taillights still come with a C-shaped finish similar to the next-gen WRX sedan.
Could it be the next-gen XV?
No clues for the interior layout were given in the short teaser video. However, one can expect that the supposed next-gen XV will utilize a similar cabin as the new Subaru models like the WRX. After all, this has been the go-to design language of the brand for the longest time. We could see a vertical touchscreen integrated into the center console complemented by vertically-oriented aircon vents.
The same story goes under the hood as the automaker has yet to reveal the specs. As a Subaru-badged vehicle, the new XV will likely be powered by a boxer engine paired with the brand’s Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). It is also expected to use a symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

In addition, the new crossover will likely be equipped with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. This is the brand’s award-winning advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that recently hit the 5-million sales milestone.
