Subaru is keen on developing its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, for the safety of road users. Now, the relentless efforts of the Japanese automaker have paid off as the global sales of the models equipped with the said safety technology surpassed five million.
Subaru cars with the EyeSight tech reached the 5-million sales milestone
The EyeSight Driver Assist Technology was first introduced in Japan in May 2008. It initially used a single camera technology to provide driver assist features such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Pre-Collision Braking. These detect not only cars but also pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
“Our top priority at Subaru is to provide customers with vehicles built to the highest levels of safety,” said Subaru of America, Inc. President and Chief Executive Office Thomas J. Doll. “Accomplishing this milestone reflects our commitment to improving and innovating the safety features and technology in our vehicles year over year.”
Since 2013, Subaru has received a cumulative total of 63 Top Safety Pick+ awards. To put that in perspective, the number is more than any brand as of July 2022. The safety tech is now on its 4.0 version, coming with components such as two in-house color cameras mounted behind the windshield to detect objects on the road.
Almost all PH-spec Subaru models get the EyeSight tech
Locally, Subaru Philippines is offering the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology on all of its models, namely the Forester, XV, BRZ, WRX, Evoltis, and Outback. However, not all variants get the safety equipment such as the Subaru BRZ 6MT and WRX (sedan) 6MT.
Depending on the PH-spec Subaru model, the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology can offer the following:
- Pre-Collision Braking System
- Autonomous Emergency Steering
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Centering Control and Preceding Vehicle Adaptive Steering Control
- Lane Departure Prevention
- Pre-Collision Throttle Management
- Lead Vehicle Start Alert
- Manual Speed Limiter
- EyeSight Assist Monitor
