Motorcycle taxi-hailing services have been the go-to of many Filipinos for their daily commutes. It can help them get to their destinations faster, paying significantly less than car taxi-hailing services. Angkas and Joyride are the two major players in this market.
The MMDA commenced the Basic Emergency Responders Course
To put the growing popularity of this service to good, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) tapped Angkas and Joyride to be part of its emergency response team. Now, the government agency announced that the training course for the selected riders from the motorcycle companies has officially started.
The Angkas and Joyride riders are undergoing the agency’s Basic Emergency Responders Course. 50 riders have joined the training course – 25 each from the two motorcycle companies. They will learn the proper methods to respond to emergency situations on the road such as traffic accidents.

After the course, the riders will officially become trained Motorcycle Emergency Responders (MERs). They will be able to respond to incidents on seven major thoroughfares in Metro Manila, namely EDSA, C5, Commonwealth, Roxas Boulevard, Quezon Avenue, Osmeña Highway, and Marcos Highway.
MMDA Acting Chairman Engr. Carlo Dimayuga III said that Joyride and Angkas offered their respective services at no cost, while the latter’s CEO noted that the partnership shows that competition does not exist among bike-hailing firms. The program is conducted in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross and the Department of Health (DOH).

“Ito ay resulta ng pakikipagtulungan ng MMDA sa dalawang motorcycle taxi hailing services upang ang kanila riders ay makatulong sa pagtugon sa mga situation na nangangailangan ng emergency response tulad ng mga traffic accident,” said MMDA on a Facebook post.
