The Mercedes-AMG One sets a new lap record at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, completing the 20.832-km track in 6 minutes 35.18 seconds.

With racing driver and AMG brand ambassador Maro Engel at the wheel, the Mercedes-AMG One came out at the top despite the less-than-ideal track conditions. It also sets a new record for road-legal production vehicles and in the super sports car category.
“That was really an unforgettable experience,” said Engel. “I didn’t expect that we would be able to set such as lap time with these track conditions. In some crucial areas of the track, it hadn’t dried completely yet and was therefore lucky. That was a special challenge.”
The fastest road-legal car on the ring
The Mercedes-AMG One delivered the record-breaking lap time thanks to its use of a hybrid powertrain derived from Formula 1. Under the hood is a 1,063-hp 1.6-liter V6 hybrid gasoline engine with four turbochargers. Other technologies installed in the One are a Drag Reduction System (DRS) and special energy management.
Engel had to maximize all the said technologies equipped in the Mercedes-AMG One on a damp and partly dirty track. Sunny weather with light winds also posed a challenge to the driver. But after several attempts, the hypercar has been hailed as the new king of the Ring.
The Mercedes-AMG team did it again
With a 6:35.183 lap record, the F1-powered hypercar dethroned the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR which did it in 6:43.300. It also bested the 6:48.047 lap time of fellow Mercedes-AMG sibling, the GT Black Series, also set by Engel in November 2020.
“I’m proud of the whole AMG team – everyone who was involved in this project. The various departments in Affalterbach, as well as our colleagues at HPP in Brixworth never gave up and continued to push the dream of this vehicle. This success is the well-deserved reward for their hard work,” said Mercedes-AMG GmbH Chairman of the Board Management Philipp Schiemer.
