This is reportedly the brand’s first electric performance SUV.

Mercedes-AMG launches the EQE SUV for the 2024 model year, its first performance SUV under the EQ electric series. The model shares its electric platform with the AMG EQS and AMG EQE sedans, with two electric motors and all-wheel-drive capability.

World Premiere of the New EQE SUV

“The AMG EQE SUV is another milestone in our Future of Driving Performance. The new model is our first all-electric SUV,” said Mercedes-AMG GmbH CEO Philipp Schiemer. “With its variable interior and higher-performance all-wheel-drive, it is Mercedes-AMG’s most versatile vehicle.”

“The compact format of the EQE SUV, the short wheelbase and the performance-oriented drive concept form the perfect starting point for realizing an agile, highly emotional and luxurious driving experience with our AMG-specific solutions,” adds Mercedes-AMG GmbH Chief Technical Officer Jochen Hermann. “It ensures that our customers can look forward to the Driving Performance that is a hallmark of our brand.”

Exterior

The EQE SUV measures 4,879mm long, 1,931mm wide, and 1,672mm high on a 3,030mm wheelbase. An AMG-specific radiator grille with chrome vertical struts headlines the front fascia, terminating at the upper corners in LED headlamps that offer a specific AMG projection every time the vehicle is opened or closed.

A brand-specific badge on the hood accompanied by the AMG emblem in lieu of the Mercedes star marks the first time this stylistic touch is used on a Mercedes-AMG electric model. The front apron and splitter feature chrome trim against a high-gloss black finish.

At the sides, the EQE SUV brandishes a clean profile with subtle character lines and recessed door handles, complemented by AMG-specific wheel arch claddings in body color housing a choice of 21- and 22-inch AMG light-alloy aero wheels. Helix design LED tail lamps surround the tailgate, bordered at the bottom by an aerodynamically optimized diffuser.

Interior

AMG visuals are carried over to the interior, where five occupants get to indulge in seats that are draped in either man-made Artico leather or optional Nappa leather. The front seats come with embossed AMG emblems on the headrests. Pedals, floor mats, and door sill panels are likewise adorned with AMG branding.

The premium ambience is enhanced by black Microcut fiber with red topstitching on the door center panels and center console, while more Nappa leather can be found on the AMG Performance flat-bottom steering wheel. There’s 520 liters of boot space behind the second-row seats, and folding the rear bench frees up to 1,675 liters for more luggage or otherwise bigger cargo.

Tech & Safety

An available MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) Hyperscreen is an option on both of the EQE SUV’s available trim levels, turning the entire dashboard into a three-sectioned display from pillar to pillar. Even front passengers can have access to multimedia and communications content, with a blanking function restricting displays to essential information for the driver to reduce distracted driving.

For the first time in a vehicle, Californian specialist ZYNC offers a premium digital entertainment platform giving customers access to both local and global streaming services with a single user interface. A Dolby Atmos sound system positioned all around the cabin elevates the acoustic experience.

On the top-spec EQE53 4MATIC+ trim, electromechanical active roll stabilization can precisely compensate for body movements, with front and rear anti-roll bars. Not only does this provide fine-tuning of cornering characteristics but also increases ride comfort, while being lighter in weight and significantly faster in response than hydraulic solutions.

The high-performance brake system comprises six-piston front and single-piston rear calipers working with disc brakes, while a AMG ceramic composite brake system is available as an option. An iBooster intelligent electromechanical brake booster optimizes regeneration and performance braking.

Powertrain

Two permanently excited synchronous motors propel both trim levels of the EQE SUV, producing 476 horsepower and 858 Nm of torque by default. These go up to 687 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of pull on the 4MATIC+ variant, with power reaching the wheels using an AMG Performance fully variable all-wheel drivetrain

Power is supplied by an onboard 328-volt lithium-ion battery that sits in a crash-protected area, delivering 90.6 kilowatt-hours of energy across 360 pouch cells. Rated to last 10 years or 250,000 kilometers, the battery features short charging times through intelligent thermal management that preheats or cools it to the optimal temperature prior to charging. Bidirectional charging will also be offered for the Japanese market.

The EQE 43 SUV is reported to have a range of 488 kilometers on a single charge, while the flagship EQE 53 SUV is rated at 470 kilometers.

Pricing

No pricing information has been disclosed for the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV, but it is estimated to start at $120,000 (over Php 7 million). It is expected to arrive a few months after the standard EQE SUVs reach dealers sometime in the first half of 2023.
