After five years, the One has arrived.

Mercedes-Benz is proud to announce that the Mercedes-AMG One has finally made its debut.

This follows the brand’s statement back in 2017, saying that it will integrate a Formula 1 engine into a street-legal car. The German marque came up with a 1,049-hp hypercar that is heavily inspired by the said motorsport not only in terms of the powertrain, but also with the design inside and out.

“With the Mercedes-AMG One, we have more than pushed the envelope. The immense technical challenges of making a modern Formula 1 powertrain suitable for everyday road use have undoubtedly pushed us to our limits,” said Mercedes-AMG Chairman of the Management Board Philipp Schiemer.

Exterior

Just like Mercedes-Benz’s Formula 1 car, the Mercedes-AMG One comes with three-pointed stars contours on its rear end. The monocoque body is designed with various aerodynamic exterior parts rendered in carbon fiber to maximize downforce and balance. Mercedes-Benz claims that the hypercar can generate downforce from as low as 50 km/h.

The front and rear of the One come with five links and two adjustable suspension struts installed. These prevent excessive body roll even at high-speed cornering. In addition, the springs and dampers have been tuned and balanced to provide highly dynamic handling.

Interior

Mercedes-Benz describes the interior of the One as Formula 1 for two. As expected, flashy styling isn’t the go-to of the design team. Instead, the cabin is dominated by a gray theme with carbon fiber finishes and Petronas color accents on the stitching, seat belts, and AMG badges on the sports seats which are firmly fixed.

However, the backrests of the AMG Motorsport seat pans can be adjusted to two positions, namely 25 degrees and 30 degrees. Also, the passenger footrest can be individually adjusted to set a comfortable riding position. Other interior features include an engine start button, two mini USB ports, and a compartment with a transparent lid.

Tech & Safety

One of the most eye-catching features of the interior is the F1-styled steering wheel. It is designed with a shift light, accompanied by buttons for activating the nine-stage AMG Traction Control, suspension settings, and DRS (drag reduction system). For safety, an airbag is integrated into the steering wheel.

There are two 10-inch screens found in the cabin with Mercedes-AMG One graphics, one for the instrument cluster and one for the multimedia. The instrument cluster screen is positioned slightly higher in front of the driver, while the multimedia screen is tilted towards the person behind the wheel.

Engine & Performance

Powering the Mercedes-AMG One is a 1.6-liter V6 turbo hybrid engine derived from the brand’s Formula 1 powertrain. It consists of four electric motors, two of which are placed on each of the front wheels. The third motor is connected to the engine, while the last one is paired with the turbocharger to reduce turbo lag.

The One and Only

Overall, the German hypercar is capable of generating 1,048 horsepower. No torque figure has been given as the automaker said that the ‘specification not possible due to complex drivetrain.’ The power is sent to all wheels (AMG Performance 4MATIC) via a 7-speed automated manual transmission. In pure electric mode, the vehicle offers an 18.1 km of range with its 8.4 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Price

Mercedes-Benz didn’t mention the official price of the F1-powered One, but previous reports state that the hypercar is valued at around USD 2.7-million (Php 141,706,800 in direct conversion). Regardless of the actual price tag, all of the 275 One units are said to have already been sold.
