The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has its roots as a military off-roader, which was still evident after the SUV’s conversion into the G63 courtesy of the brand’s Mercedes-AMG subsidiary. Now aftermarket tuner Brabus has taken a shot at the beast as well, converting it into a pickup truck while unleashing more power in the process.
As if the standard Mercedes-AMG G63 wasn't already imposing enough
Meet the Brabus 900 XLP, and as the name suggests, it packs nearly 900 horsepower (888 to be exact) coupled with 1,250 Nm of torque. The latter bit is in theory at least, as the output has been electronically limited to 1,050 Nm, just to ensure that the drivetrain survives to fight another day.
The eye-popping numbers are courtesy of a 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood, with a 9-speed automatic gearbox feeding the power to all four wheels. Sprinting from a standing start to 100 kilometers per hour takes all of 4.4 seconds, with top speed limited to 210 kilometers per hour on account of the weight it holds. More on that later.
Capable of going from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds
This custom rig is a sequel to the 800 Adventure XLP unveiled in 2020, which Brabus billed as a ‘one-of-a-kind supercar.’ The previous creation relied on a smaller 4.0-liter twin-tubo V8 that put out 800 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of twist. As you can see, it was nowhere near enough for whatever Brabus had in mind.
Extensive modifications to the exterior had to be undertaken to make the custom version more imposing compared to the standard G63 specification. There was the matter of extending the wheelbase by more than 500mm to create the rear bed, making a bespoke exhaust system necessary.
You won't be able to fit a lot of stuff , but it still makes a good conversation piece
The ground clearance has been increased by 490mm with portal axles installed, while Brabus fitted the 900 XLP with a Widestar body kit, increasing the overall width by 117mm. Carbon fiber has been extensively used on the exterior trim parts, including the grille, fenders, and exhaust tips.
Within the front bumper hides a powerful electric winch good for pulling 4,500 kilograms. The included roof rack includes a wind deflector that mounts auxiliary LED lights. Completing the 900 XLP’s stance is a set of 22-inch Brabus Monoblock Z forged alloys wearing Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain radials.
Few others can beat this commanding view
The monster machine is no less distinctive where the interior is concerned, featuring a black interior with anodized red accents and blue contrast ambient lighting. Scalloped details can be found on the leather seats and door panels, alternating with carbon fiber on touchpoints including the center console and passenger side grip. The dashboard even includes an analog clock designed by Panerai.
Ride quality is handled by Brabus’ own coilover suspension system, working with the Dynamic Select adjustable settings used by the stock G-Class. Ride height can also be adjust, although don’t expect much in terms of aerodynamics.
Perfect for the rainy season
The Brabus 900 XLP isn’t exactly a one-off, with 10 examples planned. Each one carries a price tag of 658,625 euro (over Php 36.3 million) without taxes and customs duties factored in. If your pockets are deep enough, you might want to pull the trigger on this one and see how it fares on Philippine roads.
