Despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, Mazda Philippines continues its long-standing partnership with MFI Polytechnic Institute by offering the BAP Mazda-MFI Automotive Technology 2-Year Scholarship Program for 2021.

Mazda Philippines delivers on its commitment

Now in its 8th year, the program has begun the screening process for a new batch of 10 youth from an underprivileged background as scholars. The BAP Mazda-MFI scholarship program teaches students the fundamentals of a four-stroke engine for the first year, including its operation and maintenance. Students also learn to develop communicative, vocational, occupational, and interpersonal skills.

Some vehicles students could encounter in the program include Mazda crossovers such as the CX-3, CX-30, CX-5, CX-8, and CX-9. They could also get a hands-on experience with its sedan lineup including the Mazda2, Mazda3, and Mazda6.

In the second and final year, students are assigned to various Mazda Philippines dealerships to gain practical experience and on-the-job training. Upon completion, students are expected to become proficient in the following skills:

  • Repairing and servicing vehicles
  • Assemble automotive systems
  • Troubleshoot both simple and difficult automotive problems
  • Install vehicular components according to every vehicle’s specifications

Mazda Philippines shared that majority of the scholars who have graduated from the course were employed not only within its business network, but also in the dealerships of other car brands. As of this writing, the company has five graduates working in its local dealership network.

“Despite the pandemic, which makes it reasonable for companies to reduce costs and expenses, Mazda Philippines chose to continue with the program without interruption,” shared Mazda Philippines Parts and Technical Manager Ramon Buan.

“We truly believe that education is essential to break the cycle of poverty, which perfectly describes the background from where these students came from. And by continuing with this valuable partnership, we will also continue to transform the lives of many families,” added Buan.
