The Mazda CX-5 leads the way.

Needless to say, the COVID-19 pandemic that broke out last year affected car sales around the world. A year has passed, and automakers are steadily showing positive outcomes in the sales department as restrictions are getting relaxed and more businesses are back on track.

Mazda CX-5

Mazda Philippines is one of the car brands that bounced back as its sales grew by 38-percent in H1 2021 over the same period last year. To note, 60 percent of the carmaker’s total sales come from its crossover range which consists of the CX-3, CX-5, CX-8, CX-9, and CX-30.

The Mazda CX-8 and CX-9 midsize crossovers posted a 50-percent and 100-percent increase, respectively. An impressive feat that the CX-9 accomplished is that it is the second best-selling model in its segment priced above Php 2 million. The top spot is ruled by its smaller midsize crossover sibling, the CX-8.

Both Mazda models are powered by a 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G gasoline engine. However, the CX-8 gets a naturally-aspirated powertrain, while the CX-9 benefits from a turbocharger that boosts power up to 228 hp and 420 Nm of torque.

Meanwhile, Mazda’s entry to the premium compact crossover segment, the CX-5, also recorded a 38-percent sales increase in H1 2021 over the same period last year. It is also hailed as the best-selling model from Mazda Philippines’ lineup in the first half of 2021.

Mazda CX-9

“The three-row CX-9 and CX-8 continue to make strong inroads into large households and management executive segments, offering unmatched premium quality and performance typical of more expensive luxury brands at a much more accessible price level,” said Mazda Philippines President and CEO Steven Tan.

“The 5 Years Free Service Plan, a standard package that is included in all new Mazda vehicles, has brought a new level of ownership satisfaction to the customers from the start of the pandemic last year. I have heard from customers that the free service plan completes the premium experience of owning a Mazda” added Tan.
