Mazda Australia ramped up the range of the BT-50 pickup truck with the addition of the Thunder edition, the model’s new top-spec variant. It is installed with variant-exclusive features that make the third-gen version of the pickup truck look tougher while maintaining the sleek characteristics of the all-new Mazda BT-50.
Mazda BT-50 Thunder
Perhaps the most noticeable Thunder edition feature is the blacked-out Steel Bullbar with Lightforce LED Light Bar at the front. This gives the Mazda BT-50 a proper off-road appeal. Also, the LED light bar can be used when the truck is used when trailing at night.
The Steel Bullbar is complemented by black side steps and fender flares, providing a more muscular finish to the design. To top the enhanced exterior look of the Thunder, the pickup truck is installed with blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels that come with a 6-spoke design.
A tougher-looking truck from Mazda
Mazda Australia is offering seven color options for the BT-50 Thunder. These options include the following:
- Concrete Gray Mica
- Ice White
- True Black Mica
- Ingot Silver Metallic
- Gun Blue Mica
- Rock Gray Mica
- Red Volcano Mica
Powering the Mazda BT-50 is a 3.0-liter inline-4 turbodiesel engine that makes 188 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Furthermore, new to the Australian-spec BT-50 for the 2022 model is the addition of the 1.9-liter turbocharged diesel engine option which is acquired through the Japanese car brand’s partnership with Isuzu.
This truck brings on the Thunder
With the tougher-looking Mazda BT-50 Thunder, the pickup truck battle in Australia should be an exciting segment to watch as it competes with the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior, an exclusive trim from Nissan Australia. Indeed, pickup trucks are one of the popular types of vehicles in the Land Down Under.
The Mazda BT-50 Thunder starts at $65,900 (or around Php 2.4 million) for the 6-speed manual variant. To note, the Thunder is an exclusive trim in Australia. Meanwhile, Mazda has yet to introduce the all-new BT-50 in the Philippines.
