Since its introduction in 2020, the Maserati MC20 has been pushing the envelope for what the brand is capable of offering in the super sports car market. But it looks like the Italian automaker wants to take the model up a notch with the unveiling of the Maserati Project24.
Maserati Project24
The Maserati Project24 is the more performance-oriented version of the MC20 that will be designed for the track only. It will come with enhancements from the front all the way to the back to deliver “a new level of adrenaline on the track.”
While the Project24 is based on the MC20, the track version is designed with significant exterior updates, enhancing both aesthetics and aerodynamics. Based on the images, the body gets a new front bumper, massive hood scoops, a large rear wing, and a revamped rear end with new taillights.
It is based on the mid-engined Maserati MC20
Moreover, the model will get enhancements that cannot be seen by our eyes through weight reduction. Maserati is looking to cut the weight down to 1,250 kg, which is almost as light as mass-market compact sedans. As a result, the vehicle is expected to put up a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 1.69 kg/hp.
The 3.0-liter twin-turbo Maserati Nettuno V6 gasoline engine is still used by the Project24. But it has new turbochargers which amp the power up to 740 horsepower (from 621 hp). It sends power to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential racing transmission.
The supercar boasts design and performance enhancements
Among its performance features are an innovative suspension with adjustable racing dampers, Brembo CCMR ventilated racing brakes, and racing-tuned slick tires. It will also be equipped with FIA-approved safety features such as an FIA-spec fire extinguisher, and an FIA-homologated fuel tank and roll cage.
Maserati planned to produce 62 units of the Project24 only, making the limited series super sports car an emblem of exclusivity. Owners will benefit from a unique range of services including track-specific experiences and support.
