Toyota showed that it is ready for the electric future as it previewed 15 new battery electric vehicles (BEV) last December 2021. The Japanese car brand’s luxury division, Lexus, is also on track to make the electric shift, with plans to launch the LFA’s successor in eight years' time.
Lexus electric sports car concept
The new Lexus electric sports car concept was among the vehicles showcased in Toyota’s virtual launch in regards to its future plans about transitioning to BEVs. The LFA successor will be part of Lexus’ full BEVs model lineup, and it is scheduled to be launched by 2030. However, the concept has yet to be named.
The Japanese automaker previously said that the upcoming Lexus electric sports car will “inherit the driving taste or the secret sauce” of the LFA. It also promises to give a unique driving experience that is “constantly faithful to the driver’s intentions.”
Powertrain details are yet to be released by Lexus
While that may sound vague, Lexus International President & Chief Branding Officer Koji Sato shared that the electric sports car’s zero to 100 km/h acceleration time will be “in the low two-second range.” Sato emphasized that the Lexus electric sports car aims to be a high-performance BEV.
Passing the torch
Lexus added that it will symbolize the brand’s future while giving a nod to the LFA. It is also expected to have more than 700 km of electric range, which is made possible through the use of solid-state batteries.
Aside from the next-gen sports car, Lexus is preparing the launch of the RZ line electric crossover. Images of the Lexus RZ 450e electric compact crossover have been surfacing online recently but, the Japanese car brand has yet to release its powertrain details. Sato previously said that a new series of Lexus models are slated for debut between the first and second quarter of 2022.
