DPWH is now working on completing the last phases of the said project.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that the construction works to widen Lawton Avenue in Taguig City will be completed in the second quarter (Q2) of 2022. Initially, the said agency was eyeing to complete this project by the end of 2021. That however, didn’t come to pass.

Some portions of the Lawton Avenue widening project are already done

In a statement said by DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado, this widening project is vital in “addressing traffic woes experienced by motorists.” It is also one of the main projects for Metro Manila designed to help decongest EDSA, and thus will provide a much-needed increase in mobility amid the pandemic.

Of note, the Lawton Avenue widening project has three phases, two of which are already being worked on. Phase 1 is a 1.34 kilometers stretch that traverses 5th Avenue to Bayani Road, while the 1,100 lineal meter Phase 2 stretches from Bayani Road to Philippine Navy. Phase 3 in turn is a 240 lineal meter road from Philippine Navy to the Pasong Tamo Extension.

Once completed, the new and improved Lawton Avenue will consist of six lanes, and will serve as an alternate route for those traveling between the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig. It will lessen travel times for the said route by as much as 15 minutes.

Road users will also be able to use the upgraded Lawton Ave. as an alternative to EDSA when heading to nearby areas. Furthermore, the said road will also complement the Ortigas-BGC Link Road to provide faster travel times for those heading to and from Pasig, Taguig, Makati, and Mandaluyong.

The Lawton Avenue widening project was started back in 2017. It costs a total of Php 458 million.
