It also appears smaller than the global version.

As many of you might have noticed by now, Kia is working hard on improving their entire model lineup. And so far, they’ve released modern-looking vehicles like the new fifth-generation Sportage.

The fifth-gen 2022 Kia Sportage for the global market

Though that model for the global market already looks quite refined and somewhat futuristic, the Korean carmaker is actually working on another version specific to the European market. And as far as the concept sketches go, it looks vastly different.

For starters, its sharp-looking C-pillar (rear-most pillar) is more seamlessly integrated into the black colored roof. It further juxtaposes the said black roof, thus enhancing the “floating roof” look. In comparison, the global mode gets a thinner C-pillar. Like on the concept sketch, it still is angled forward, but it looks more conventional than the one shown on the sketch.

The way the C-pillar is designed on the sketch of the European Sportage also results in a swooping rear end. To some degree, it even gets a fastback look that’s several degrees sharper than the one on the global fifth-gen Sportage.

The front end also has deeper angles as opposed to the flatter-looking front end of the global version. Like the latter though, it still uses the latest evolution of Kia’s tiger-nose grille, as well as the boomerang-shaped headlamps.

Size-wise, the artist’s rendition of the Euro-spec Sportage also looks more compact than the global version. According to Kia, this hints at the car’s ability to deal with European roads.

Of note, some of these roads in Europe can be tight, with hairpin curves. This is especially true for the said region’s cities. Despite that though, the sketch also shows an ample amount of ground clearance. As such, it can still be used for the occasional romp in the outdoors.

As a reminder though, the Euro-spec Sportage is still in its design stages. So yeah, we still don’t know whether the production version will even look like this or not. Lastly, this is also the first time that a Kia model is receiving a separate version specific to Europe.
