This is made possible by the larger 99.8 kWh battery option.

When Kia introduced the EV9, the Korean automaker said the all-electric midsize crossover offers a WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure)-rated range of up to 541 km. Now, the US’ less forgiving EPA got its hands on the model and reported the electric vehicle (EV) can run up to 489 km on a single charge.

The aforementioned range is achieved by the EV9 Light with the optional 99.8 kWh battery, a 201-horsepower single motor, and a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) system. The Light is also offered with a smaller 76.1-kWh battery coupled with a 215-horsepower motor – providing a range of 370 km.

The larger battery can be paired with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup in the Wind, Land, and GT-Line variants, which may be more potent at 379 horsepower but adds weight. Consequently, the range is lower at 451 km.

The all-electric crossover has an EPA-rated range of 489 km

For your reference, you can check out the estimates from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for the Kia EV9 below:

Model

EPA-estimated range

Light 99.8 kWh RWD

489 km

Wind 99.8 kWh AWD

451 km

Land 99.8 kWh AWD

451 km

GT-Line 99.8 kWh AWD

435 km

Light 76.1 kWh RWD

370 km

In terms of charging, the 800-volt EV architecture, shared with the Kia EV6, allows the all-electric three-row crossover to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in under 25 minutes using a DC fast charger.

“The EV9’s diverse powertrain offerings deliver on both AER and performance capabilities for our customers’ individual needs and preferences,” said Kia America COO & EVP Steven Center.

“While the EV9 Light trim offers all-electric driving range ideal for long-distance family travel, the GT-Line trim can deliver spirited acceleration for around-town driving. There is something here for everyone considering an EV SUV as their next vehicle,” added Center.

There’s still no confirmation whether this EV will debut in the Philippines, though. But there is a chance as Kia Philippines said it will launch an EV model by 2024. This is part of the company’s 2023-2024 Product Roadmap.
