The Hyundai Grand Starex’s successor, the Staria, has been impressing the majority with its next-gen-looking design since its introduction last year. Red Dot Award decided to recognize the Korean MPV’s design by awarding it with the 2022 ‘Best of the Best’ title.
Hyundai Staria gets the 2022 Red Dot Award Best of Best title
Regarded as the highest title in the competition, the ‘Best of the Best’ award is given to the vehicle that comes with a groundbreaking design. That said, the award helped further reinforce Hyundai’s global competitiveness in the design department.
“Staria is Hyundai’s new MPV lineup crafted with the ‘inside-out’ design approach that has surely opened up a new mobility era for all,” said Head of Hyundai Global Design Center, Executive Vice President SangYup Lee.
The Hyundai Staria is crafted with the new design philosophy called the ‘inside-out’ approach. This means that the designers started working on the interior first before the exterior. In turn, passengers can benefit from a well-thought cabin layout.
Premium interior design details are integrated
Based on the traditional Korean architectural style known as hanok, the lowered beltlines and panoramic side windows create a spacious cabin atmosphere for passengers. Depending on the option chosen, the MPV is available with seating configurations ranging from two to 11.
Exterior-wise, the Hyundai Staria exudes a space shuttle appearance thanks to its full-width LED daytime running lights (DRLs) upfront. The absence of prominent and crisp character lines bolsters its characteristic as a futuristic-looking MPV. And at the rear, the vertical tail lamps get a pixelated-like finish which provides a retro appeal.
“Our design team has put their passion into this product, working closely with our world-class modelers and engineers to make the dream come true,” added Lee.
The Korean marque takes another design award
Hyundai Motor Group also recently received a prestigious award for the fascinating designs of its electric vehicles (EVs). Luc Donckerwolke, Hyundai’s Chief Creative Executive, was named the 2022 World Car Person of the Year in recognition of his design works on the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60.
