It will supply the event with 226 electrified models.

Hyundai is throwing its support behind this year’s FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar as an official sponsor, announcing that it will meet 50 percent of the event’s passenger transport needs by fielding its electrified models.

Hyundai will be deploying its hybrid and electric models at the FIFA World Cup 2022

“Hyundai Motor and FIFA share a strong commitment to make this year’s event a sustainable success through the use of clean mobility,” said Hyundai Motor Company President & CEO Jaehoon Chang. “By providing our eco-friendly hybrid and battery electric vehicles as ground transportation, we expect to achieve our shared goal of making the World Cup in Qatar a win-win for planet Earth and humanity.”

The world’s biggest soccer tournament will see Hyundai deploying 616 fleet vehicles, 446 of which will be for passenger use. A little over half or 226 of these units will comprise hybrid electric (HEV) and battery electric (BEV) vehicles. These include the Ioniq 5 BEV, Sonata HEV, Tucson HEV and Kona HEV, as well as the G80 and GV70 EVs from Genesis, which will be used to transport FIFA VIPs and staff.

Among the models to be fielded is the G80 electric executive sedan from Hyundai's Genesis luxury marque

In addition, the South Korean automaker will also provide Elec City buses to ferry members of the media. Roadside charging services for discharged BEVs will be operated using the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function on two Ioniq 5 units, with all BEVs supported by electric chargers at the event’s parking facilities to ensure continuous operation.

The vehicles will be monitored in real-time for breakdowns or accidents, with Hyundai providing prompt service response such as emergency dispatch, troubleshooting, and vehicle inspection. This will be overseen by a dedicated team comprising personnel from Hyundai’s Headquarters Service, Sub-Middle East Regional Service, and Sub-Middle East Regional Quality Center.

Apart from deploying its electrified models, Hyundai also launched its Goal Of the Century (GOTC) World Cup campaign in April 2022, carrying the slogan “A United World for sustainability.” It organized the Team Century roster of campaign ambassadors, including K-pop group BTS and Afghan soccer superstar Nadia Nadim.
