It’s not every day that a performance EV arrives on our shores.

Hyundai Motor Philippines surprised the 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) crowd by showing the Ioniq5 N alongside the Elantra N. The performance version of the Ioniq 5 EV was a sight to behold, but its features will make you look beyond its gnarly styling.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

Armed with a cutting-edge design, the Ioniq 5 N stands at 4,715mm long, 1,940mm wide, and 1,585mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,000mm, this five-seater electric SUV boasts impressive dimensions for both comfort and performance.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N wants to prove that EVs aren’t boring. Powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Electric Motor, it delivers a staggering maximum output of 600 hp (641 hp with N Grin Boost) and torque of 740 Nm (770 Nm with N Grin Boost), all powered by an 84.0 kWh Lithium-Ion battery, granting an extensive range of 448 km on a single charge. Its all-wheel-drive system ensures superior traction, while its MacPherson Strut front and Multi-Link rear suspension, along with 20" front and 19" rear disc brakes.

The exterior features LED lighting all around, including wide projection headlamps and a striking LED rear combination lamp. Inside, the cabin exudes luxury with perforated leather sports seats, a 12.3" TFT LCD instrument cluster, and a 12.3" touchscreen display for the audio system, which includes AM/FM, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity, all accompanied by an 8-speaker Bose sound system.

Safety is paramount with Hyundai SmartSense technology, including Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance, and more.

Inside Hyundai's high-performance EV

The Ioniq 5 N will sell for P4,250,000 in 5 color options, Atlas White, Abyss Black Pearl, Cyber Gray Metallic, Performance Blue, and Performance Blue Matte. It will come with a 5-year or 200,000-km vehicle warranty, 8-year or 160,000-km high voltage battery warranty, and automobile track coverage.

Our Take

As for the Ioniq 5 N, we admit it’s quite pricey but remember that this model has recently reaped international awards and is a true-blue performance vehicle (pun intended) waiting to be unleashed on the track. The track coverage of the warranty is also a surprise, which means wealthy owners will have peace of mind pushing it to the limit in a circuit. Hopefully, us, too, when we get our hands on one.
