It’s a bargain for what it is and an interesting adversary for the highly popular Honda hot hatch.

Hyundai Motor Philippines has introduced two N models to the local market, upping its game and potentially setting its sights on established competitors. The Elantra makes its comeback as the hot Elantra N sports sedan, with the award-winning Ioniq 5 N on its side at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show.

But let’s focus on the returning nameplate, the Elantra, in its hottest form, the Elantra N.

The Hyundai Elantra N is a fusion of performance and sophistication. With its sleek dimensions measuring 4675mm in length, 1825mm in width, and 1415mm in height, the Elantra N should attention whether under bright lights or on the road. It has a wheelbase of 2720mm, while the 135mm ground clearance balances sportiness and practicality.

Under the hood lies a Theta 2.0 Turbo GDI engine, delivering an impressive 276 hp at 5,500 rpm and 392 Nm of torque at 2,100 rpm, coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission for seamless power delivery. The chassis boasts a MacPherson Strut front suspension and Multi-Link rear suspension, enhanced by electronic-controlled shock absorbers.

Design-wise, the Elantra N features dual projection LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, and a sleek rear spoiler on the exterior, while the interior is equipped with a 10.25" TFT LCD instrument cluster and a 10.25" touchscreen display audio system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration. Inside, the 5-seater cabin exudes luxury and comfort, upholstered in perforated leather with sporty accents.

Safety is paramount with Hyundai SmartSense features like Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, complemented by a comprehensive array of airbags, ABS, ESC, and more.

The Elantra N will be sold in 4 different colors: Atlas White, Abyss Black Pearl, Cyber Gray Metallic, and Performance Blue. It’s priced at P2,738,000.

Our Take

With a price tag of P2,738,000, the Hyundai Elantra N offers a great value proposition against contenders, specifically against the Honda Civic Type R, which is a million pesos more expensive. A head-to-head matchup between the two would be wildly interesting (fingers crossed), but based on what we see on paper, the Korean sports sedan has a huge advantage over the Japanese hot hatch.
