The more efficient and more powerful Civic is now in Thailand.

Following the unveiling of the 2022 Honda Civic Hybrid in Europe, the model has just made its ASEAN debut at the 43rd Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand.

2022 Honda Civic e:HEV

The 2022 Honda Civic e:HEV comes with a more eco-friendly powertrain that will help the Japanese marque further grow its electrified lineup in the region. It will be a significant model in Honda Thailand’s lineup, especially considering how popular the compact sedan is in the Land of Smiles.

“Honda Civic has been a leader in the compact car market in Thailand for a long time. And after Honda has launched the 11th generation Civic last year, it has received a great response from customers, which can occupy the number 1 position in the compact market,” said Honda Thailand CEO Noriyuki Takakura.

Interior of the Civic hybrid

Exterior-wise, the hybrid version gets the same design as the regular Honda Civic. It is available with the top-of-the-line e:HEV RS variant which adds sportiness to the finish. Some of its features are 18-inch alloy wheels, distinctive grille, sporty front bumper with the RS logo, and blacked-out RS rear spoiler.

Included in the paint options are Ignite Red Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Platinum White Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, and Morning Mist Blue Metallic.

Moving to the cabin, Thai car buyers can opt for either a black or gray interior theme. A 9-inch infotainment screen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is installed in the center console. It also gets a wireless charging pad and two USB ports for the rear passengers.

The greener compact sedan is still equipped with the brand’s Honda Sensing, offering advanced driver assistance features. It includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC with LSF), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW), Auto High-Beam (AHB), and Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCN).

Honda is growing its electrification campaign

The 2022 Honda Civic e:HEV is powered by a 2.0-liter Atkinson-Cycle DOHC gasoline engine paired with two electric motors, which is said to be the same powertrain configuration as the European-spec model. Honda Thailand has not revealed the official performance numbers of the Civic Hybrid just yet. To put things in perspective, the Euro-spec Civic Hybrid puts out 181 hp and 315 Nm of torque.

Previous reports state that the Thai-spec 2022 Honda Civic Hybrid could generate a combined power output of 212 hp and 315 Nm of torque. But then again, nothing is official yet as of this writing.

“The all-new Honda Civic e:HEV will strengthen the Honda Civic’s lineup and complete the e:HEV lineup of Honda to be more perfect. This reflects Honda’s commitment to products and activities with zero carbon emissions to create a pollution-free society to come true according to Honda’s operational goals in 2050,” added Takakura.

Honda Thailand will officially launch the Civic e:HEV in June 2022

The estimated pricing for the Honda Civic Hybrid starts at 1,150,000 Baht (or around Php 1.78 million) for the base e:HEV EL+, and goes up to 1,270,000 Baht (Php 1.97 million) for the top-spec e:HEV RS. Honda Thailand said that the said prices could still vary upon the model’s official launching in June 2022.

Meanwhile, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) hasn’t touched on the matter just yet. HCPI’s focus as of the moment is the upcoming local launch of the all-new Honda HR-V.
