Honda to launch two all-new crossovers next year

The brand is ramping up its electrification efforts.

As we’ve reported before, Honda has just revealed the 2022 Honda Civic Hybrid which it will launch in Europe later this year. However, it looks like the Japanese brand is going full steam ahead when it comes to electrification.

The upcoming EV model will be based on this: the Honda e:Ny1 prototype

Honda announced that it will be launching two all-new crossovers in Europe next year. One will be an all-electric subcompact crossover, based on the e:Ny1 prototype. The other all-new model is said to be a hybrid compact crossover that will slot below the Honda CR-V.

Aside from the two all-new crossovers, Honda will also be introducing a plug-in hybrid option for the CR-V in Europe next year. It will be joining the two all-new crossovers that will debut for the Euro market in 2023 as part of Honda’s “Electric Vision” initiative.

For now, the car brand didn’t release that much details about the upcoming all-electric subcompact crossover that’s based on the e:Ny1. We do know though that this fully electric model uses the all-new e:N Architecture. Also, Honda claims that the production model previewed by the e:Ny1 will shape up to become a “great option for families looking for their first EV.”

Style-wise, it looks quite similar to the all-new Honda HR-V in that it features a sloping roofline and nearly identical trunk door. Going by the e:Ny1 however, it will be getting an aggressive-looking front end with a pair of hawkish-looking LED headlamps. And of course, it won’t come with a grille since it's an EV.

As for the other model, which is the compact crossover with a hybrid engine, reports state that it will slot below the CR-V with almost similar dimensions. Honda released a series of sketches to preview the said all-new compact crossover (see image below).

Joining the two all-new crossovers is the new Honda CR-V that will be available in either a full hybrid configuration, or as a plug-in hybrid model.

On a related note, the brand will end its sale of fossil fuel-powered internal combustion engine vehicles by 2040. By considering the term “globally”, this might also mean that this decision will include the ASEAN market.

Do you like the direction that Honda is going? Are you hopeful that the local market will also see the fruits of Honda’s electrification efforts?
